About Kalyan Gayan Samaj

Kalyan Gayan Samaj was established in 1926 by a passionate group of music lovers in memory of the legendary Pt. Bhaskarbuva Bakhale. Founded with a vision to preserve and promote India’s rich heritage of Hindustani Classical Music, the Samaj continues to serve as a vibrant cultural hub in the region.

Recognized as a Charitable Trust under the Maharashtra State Public Trust Act, 1960, the Samaj is committed not only to entertaining audiences but also to nurturing generations of classical music enthusiasts.

Our Journey

Over the last 99 years, Kalyan Gayan Samaj has become a cornerstone of the classical music landscape in Maharashtra. From organizing landmark music festivals to curating a rich legacy of musical education, our journey is filled with historic milestones:

1969

Celebrated the Silver Jubilee of our music school, Dinkar Sangeet Vidyalay.

1976

On our Golden Jubilee, we established a unique Painting Gallery of music maestros, with the help of renowned artists.

1979–1983

Organized festivals in memory of Pt. Balkrushnabua Ichalkaranjikar, Pt. D.V. Paluskar, and Smt. Kesarbai Kerkar.

1986

1990

Introduced the now-iconic Diwali Pahat — a dawn musical celebration on Diwali day, the first of its kind in the region.

1994

Marked the Golden Jubilee of Dinkar Sangeet Vidyalay.

2001

Celebrated our 75th Anniversary with a grand 3-day Hindustani Classical Music Festival, which led to the inception of the Devgandharva Mahotsav — now an annual December tradition.
